Passover Seder Preparation Checklist
A Week Before
- Create or print your Haggadah for each guest
- Send invitations and confirm your guest count
- Buy non-perishable Passover items: matzah, wine, grape juice
- Plan your Seder plate items
The Day Before
- Search for chametz (Bedikat Chametz) after nightfall
- Make charoset
- Hard-boil and roast the Seder egg
- Set the table: Seder plate, wine glasses, Elijah's cup, matzah cover
- Prepare bowls of salt water for dipping
Day of the Seder
- Burn remaining chametz before 10am (Biur Chametz)
- Prepare the festive meal
- Assemble the Seder plate
- Light Yom Tov candles before the Seder begins
The 14 Steps of the Seder
- Kadesh (קַדֵּשׁ) — Sanctify with Kiddush
- Urhatz (וּרְחַץ) — Wash hands
- Karpas (כַּרְפַּס) — Dip vegetable in salt water
- Yahatz (יַחַץ) — Break the middle matzah
- Magid (מַגִּיד) — Tell the Passover story
- Rohtzah (רָחְצָה) — Wash hands with blessing
- Motzi Matzah (מוֹצִיא מַצָּה) — Bless and eat matzah
- Maror (מָרוֹר) — Eat bitter herbs
- Korekh (כּוֹרֵךְ) — Hillel sandwich
- Shulhan Orekh (שֻׁלְחָן עוֹרֵךְ) — Festive meal
- Tzafun (צָפוּן) — Eat the afikomen
- Barekh (בָּרֵךְ) — Grace after meals
